The horse’s foot bears all the weight of the body making the health of the hoof vitally important for the overall health of your horse. The statement “no hoof no horse” has a lot of truth in it because it is one of the horse’s major means of movement. However, when the horseman or woman forget to evaluate the whole horse in conjunction with the feet it’s easy to miss clear signs from the horse of discomfort that may be contributing to a foot issue. Isolating a part of the body can conclude that there is pain in a specific region which is helpful to know. However, it is often found that the origin of the pain didn’t start at the pain source. Rather it came from another part of the body that experienced strain or disbalance.

Each layer plays a vital role in the health of your horse. A familiarity of these structures should be had for daily care and the ability to spot injury and lameness. The effects on performance can be great. By empowering yourself with accurate knowledge first you can make daily choices that keep your horse healthy and safe while being proactive in preventing long term injury providing your horse with a long happy life.  

The approach to care is as vital as the information obtained and the processes in which the information collected is stored. A consideration of circumstance by individual horse, such as diet, weight, training, and stabling can all play a factor in the health of the distal phalanx and should be regularly revisited to ensure the horse is in optimum health and void of possible disease or ailment....
